the one where Cory plays hype man

Hello Reader

Quick update since it’s been a few weeks and I wanted to let you know about a few things I’m excited about. Consider this a shoutout email where I share some cool stuff my friends and colleagues are working on you might be interested in.

Some rad art I saw this week:

@caseypaintings enamel shark reveal

@artloversaustralia posted a new work by their artist @joshualaaampour

Gallery owners Nancy & Jarrod had me down to Australia back in 2019 to speak at an event and I got to meet so many awesome artists down there. Love staying in touch to see what they do.

And of course…this gem is making the rounds again (don't worry, not a risky click, but a classic headline from decades ago).

New Book: Team Habits

Many of you know that I’m a big fan of Charlie Gilkey’s work making productivity and time management skills accessible to creative people. Charlie’s book on productivity for teams comes out next week.

If you’re reading this and thinking that artists operate alone, I encourage you to rethink. Nobody works alone. Whether its your accountant, bookkeeper, artistic collaborators, teachers, or studio assistants, Team Habits has something useful to say for everyone looking to build a team.

Available for pre-order here by going here http://betterteamhabits.com/

BTW, if you want to see some sample chapters, check out Charlie’s Substack here.

Listen to me w/ The Online Course Guy

I appeared about a month ago with Jacques from The Online Course Guy. This is my 'thinking face.'

It’s an hour-long interview where I talk about the origin of The Abundant Artist, my own journey as an entrepreneur, and … panic attacks. I also get into the weeds a bit on some of the stuff I do outside of TAA, like consulting and working with other online businesses.

That’s it this week!

Cory

PS. Know anyone in Boston? I'm going to be there the week of September 4 for work and I'm setting aside some time to meet with artists locally. If you're in town, let me know! I can't promise I can meet everyone, but I'd love to meet a few great artists while I'm there.

Hello Reader, Recently I was having a conversation with a small group of artists who have seen some moderate amounts of success. They know how to make good art, but they’re struggling with the business. We had previously gotten together to discuss their marketing plans, and in this follow up, some of them had struggled to follow through on their plans. What came up is a common theme I hear from a lot of artists: “I got discouraged by negative feedback and isolation.” We’ve all been there....

Hi Reader Last week I wrote a new blog post on the effect of AI on fine art businesses. The post had some great and thoughtful responses via email (people don't really comment anymore). A lot of artists are understandably upset about the mere suggestion that AI might be used anywhere in the creative process. As one reader said, creativity should remain in the hands of humans. See a great video discussion about this on Steven Zapata's YouTube channel. My response to that reader was that I'm...
