Hello Reader, Recently I was having a conversation with a small group of artists who have seen some moderate amounts of success. They know how to make good art, but they’re struggling with the business. We had previously gotten together to discuss their marketing plans, and in this follow up, some of them had struggled to follow through on their plans. What came up is a common theme I hear from a lot of artists: “I got discouraged by negative feedback and isolation.” We’ve all been there. Whether it’s well-meaning family trying to help, careless strangers dismissing us, intentionally cruel people, or the deafening silence of being alone all the time, negative feedback is something all artists need to learn how to overcome. This is common for artists, especially earlier in their career. We lack the experience, confidence, and skills to know how to take feedback. Even artists who went through art school critiques and develop a thick skin can find themselves knocked off center when their work meets the business world’s cold realities. So, how do we protect our creative energy? Come to this hour-long workshop and we will talk about it! Protecting Creative Energy with Rachel Alexandria, MFT, MAA free workshop for artists - just because you subscribe to our newsletter ;) In this one hour live video discussion, we will cover:
Who is Rachel AlexandriaRachel Alexandria, MFT, MA, helps high performers out of their secret messes like overwhelm, anxiety, perfectionism, and people pleasing, so they can finally feel peace and self love. A former psychotherapist turned soul medic, she offers concierge care for the soul and psyche so her clients can build healthier relationships where they can care without carrying other people’s energy. Rachel has written three books on difficult conversations, inner critics, and stress relief. Her clients range from CEOs to General Counsels to multi-million-dollar business owners who say, "I wish I had a pocket Rachel with me all the time!" She also holds an MFA in Poetry from University of Florida. What to ExpectCory and Rachel will talk about some of the common ways artists get derailed by outside feedback, when to be open to feedback, and when to let go by “caring without carrying” other people’s energy. Rachel will then dive into some common skills artists can learn to implement these skills, including some simple tricks that anyone can adapt with just a few minutes of practice. We will also take questions live from participants. By the end of the session, attendees should learn how to set a protective barrier against other people’s feedback, ideas, and opinions. I’m in! When is this thing?Wednesday, November 6 at 2 PM Pacific Time / 5 PM Eastern on Zoom. Hi Reader Last week I wrote a new blog post on the effect of AI on fine art businesses. The post had some great and thoughtful responses via email (people don't really comment anymore). A lot of artists are understandably upset about the mere suggestion that AI might be used anywhere in the creative process. As one reader said, creativity should remain in the hands of humans. See a great video discussion about this on Steven Zapata's YouTube channel. My response to that reader was that I'm...
